And guess what, we’re all still here.  The WHO has finally dragged its feet to the party and declared the H1N1 novel flu virus outbreak a pandemic.  Although the scientific and medical community have been urging the WHO to raise the threat level for a few weeks, presumably some rather powerful nations had been pressuring the WHO to delay the move to stave off panic.

But now we’ve reached the moment and we all happen to still be here.  This isn’t the killer virus envisioned in Outbreak but we don’t get many opportunities to activate these surveillance systems so the practice is nice.

Good job WHO on making what has been a long awaited acknowledgment of spread of this virus.
